Stay in School: Mario Thompson

My purpose for attending college is to one day obtaining a rewarding career. If I was to get into a career sooner than later, I would still go to college. My career would most likely be something in the music field, so college would only benefit me. Making music is all about being creative and thinking outside of the box. College teaches people to do just this. For example, in my English class we look at certain pieces of art and try to come up with our own meanings. This exercises my creative thinking and makes me want to come up with something deep. When producing or writing lyrics to a record my main focus is to always be unique. A lot of other people copy the things they see the most popular artists do. In my opinion this will get you nowhere because originality is what gets people’s attention. When it comes to music, you have to have something that sets you apart from other artists; otherwise there is no point in listening to you. Going to school would help mold my skills and give me my own views and opinions. Having your own ideas is essential to being a creative individual. I think staying in school while having a career may slow my money down and make me very busy, but in the end it will be very helpful. The things I can learn in school will last me much longer than the things that I already know.
