When I
get accepted to Columbia, I will stand out because of the comfort I’ve gained
in this atmosphere. I’m in the habit of doing my homework every night, and I’m
actually excited about school. I feel that a lot of incoming freshmen feel
panicked because they don’t what to expect. I also feel that this program has
given me a good idea of where my writing and work lies as far as college-level
work is concerned. I think I have a good understanding of what my teachers will
be looking for from me.
In high
school, I would not be caught dead doing my homework. To me, it was a joke. I
already understood what was going on in class; I didn’t need to do it. My teachers
grew very frustrated with me because they could see I understood subject matter
and that I was smart. I could not bring myself to get on a schedule of doing
homework after school and my grades suffered. Now, I do it because I love it,
and I can. I feel like homework is a way to show my teachers I care. Instead of
just acing the test and never doing homework, I think a lot about what I learn
in class here at Columbia. I want to do well.
I’m
excited for the fall semester to start. I know that my classes are going to be
fun, but really I’m anxious to get started on all the work. It’s just another
excuse to show off my awesome talents. Bridge has really built up my confidence
about coming to college. It’s also increased my confidence in me, and what I’m
capable of. I feel a lot of incoming freshmen don’t have that. So, I know I’ll
be a step ahead of them as far as that goes.
This
bridge program has not only strengthened my writing, but it has prepared me for
writing in my actual classes here. I know I can write, and I’d say I’m pretty
good at organizing thought on paper, but now I understand why I do that, and
that this is what college teachers are looking for.
I’m
almost grateful that I did badly in high school. Let’s see why: I got an
adorable baby puppy for 8 dollars who will be my best friend for life, I met
amazing people I plan to keep in contact with at school, and I’m not afraid of
the unknown of college anymore, because I know now, for the most part at least.
Not many people can say that during their transition from high school to
college.
So,
thank you Bridge Program. You saved my dreams of coming to college, and you’ve
prepared me to be more successful than I thought I could be. Jonn, you’re an
awesome English teacher, and I really learned a lot from you. Colleen, thank
you for making us dig deeper and put thought into what we see or say or do.
Both of you have made me probably twice as articulate as I was before. And to
all my girls and boys in Bridge, you guys are inspiring. You are all so hard working,
and I can tell each and every single one of you is original and passionate for
something incredible. Every day I see you all it puts a smile on my face and I’ve
learned so much from all of you. I’m really happy you can accept me for the
crazy, random little girl that I am. It means a lot.
LOVE YOU GUYSSSSSSSSS!
