Breje Shaw

First Impression

In, the novel Take the Cannoli Sarah Vowell is the main character. Sarah in the book is described as this witty, creative, humorous individual who is a wise-ass. My first impression of Sarah was that she was going to be the average heroine, the one who always had something sarcastic things to say but, she surprised me in many ways Sarah is insightful, sassy, teaches you the outlooks of life and is an amazing storyteller. From my perspective I actually love the character, and I think me and her are somewhat relatable because we both are creative, funny and a wiseass.

Although, we then have our differences through our living conditions and family values. Sarah’s family values are that her Father being into guns as a hobby, he tries to connect with Sarah by talking to her about guns.  When, Sarah’s hobby in the novel she’s into Art when Sarah talks to her Dad about art, he’s not really interested.  Another example is her views on Religion Sarah quoted “I believed in the devil, I did what my mother told me to do every time I felt an evil presence.” This I don’t believe, as a Christian I believe in God, is my one and only savior. This is the part of the book I didn’t really like but, then again Sarah in the novel was free to make her own choices so she believed what she wanted to believe.  If, Sarah was a to come off the pages and enter the real world to show up at my house for dinner even though she believed in her beliefs I would have given her a chance because she  and I have common interests we both like Art.

With, that being said the reason why I had chosen the novel, not so much of the cover art but, because the book looked like a novel that I would have been interested in.  Normally I would never read a book like this because it doesn’t interest me; I like books that have action, thriller, romantic or fiction. What different about this book, in comparison to the books I read was that this book never s told us what happen to her father and usually the novels I read sometimes end in a tragedy or a happy ending, this was very surprising. Because at the end of the novel we never know what actually happens to her Dad.
