The main character of “Lost in Place” is named Mark
Salzman. A boy whose favorite thing to do in his free time is watch Bruce Lee
movies, meditate, and learn Kung Fu. I really like the character because he is
playful and not afraid to be himself. He might seem like he’s just joking around
or being a kid at first, but after watching a movie on Zen Monks he decided that’s
what he wants to do for the rest of his life. As far as relating to the
character goes, I can’t really relate to him with my present self, but when I was
a kid, I was exactly like him. When I was about his age, I was obsessed with
dinosaurs. I had bins, upon bins, upon bins, of dinosaur toys, movies, and models.
I wanted to be a paleontologist (Scientist who studies fossils) for the longest
time. Some people were surprised I even knew what a paleontologist was at such
a young age. I chose the book “Lost in Place” because honestly, after reading
the back cover, and the first couple pages, it made me laugh and seemed like it
brought out the kid in me again. The books I normally read are nothing like
this one. They’re usually books about war, gangs or some other kind of
violence. For example, my favorite book is “The Outsiders”, so this book is definitely
not my usually kind of book to read. I’m glad I chose this book out of the
other options. It seems like it’s going to be a good book and I’m excited to
finish reading the rest of it.
