Columbia Bridge Blog 2012: Question 3: Colleen

Briana moss

My first impression of this book was a story about a women named Judy a mentor of the International Rescue Committee helping three boys Benson, Alepho, and Benjamin adapt from there old lives in the Sudan to American culture, touched by their story’s she took on the task of helping then fulfill their dreams of getting an education. I was mistaken.

This book tells the story of not only Benson, Alepho, and Benjamin but of the thousands of boys who flee their country in the pursuit to find a safe haven. This book is a story of the lost boys, telling of their horrific past to educate the world so we all can come together and make a change. In the first three chapters Benson, Alepho, and Benjamin tell about their childhood past before the war. A family of 9 children they lived in the village of dinkaland his parents farmers of Sothern Sudan lived a peaceful like, there father had three wife’s owed ninety cows and was respected in the village playing a part in making difficult decisions for the good of the village. Their mother was a strong a respect woman of the village, she  establish seniority over the other wife’s and was not made to work but wished to help for the good of the family. The boys enjoyed the short childhood they had telling about their friends family and adventures.
