Devay’s
writing
Hello
my name is Devay Myatt II. I am from Detroit Michigan were I was born and
raised and were most of my family lives. I started my music career when I was
about in the sixth grade. When my father put me in piano class I absolutely hated
the classes and piano. My father put me in piano lessons and I never really
understood why he would think I wanted to play the piano. After growing up with
so many people that I knew in the music world I started to attach myself with
them and began to love music. In the ending of my eighth grade year I really
started to pick the piano back up only because I thought that I had a place in
the music world. As the years went by in high school I started to get better
and better at music and just learning how to play by ear. I now play at my father’s
church and I am the main youth musician at the international conference for the
Full Gospel Baptist Ministries. I won the best musician award in the
international conference in 2011 and plan on making more progress over the
years. I decided that I wanted to be
within the music production and business world so therefor I came to Columbia College
in Chicago.
I
heard about Columbia College through one of my friends that is in the music
production world. My first option for college was in Boston at Berklee University.
I didn’t make the cut so my friend told me about Columbia and he said it was
one of the best schools he had ever seen and been to. I started to do more research
on Columbia and I really started to get into it. I looked up the field that I wanted
to go into and saw that Columbia had it. Once I was done with all the research I
started to find myself wanting to go to this school and get into the music
production program and more. I believe that Columbia would be the best for me
and my future and I can’t wait to start in the music division.
When
you grow up and you’re a kid that travels a lot like me you go to different states
and cities and see a lot of different people and schools there but, when I came
to Chicago and saw Columbia I said to
myself that this might be the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love
learning and making new connections and that’s just what I plan on doing with
my stay in Columbia College and Chicago.
