Taylor Irby

My first impression about the main character “mark” I really thought that he had a good head on his shoulders, he knew what he wanted to do even if he wasn’t sure how to go about, I then thought that after his parents told him to wait until he graduated high school that he would just find something else to do just to satisfy his parents,   to humor them. his urge to want to lean kung Fu regardless of his parents opinion about it, he took it into his own hands to look, he made a Buddhist temple out of typical things laying around. But on the other hand, his father didn’t really take anything  Mark said seriously, for example, when mark said that he wanted to become an astronaut his father kind of laughed at him and said that he was “too young, and that he needed to wait until he got a little older”

Mark’s father was pessimistic he always thought the worst of everything regardless of the situation, regardless of what the slightest outcome could be, compared to his father, mark was synthetic pessimistic, he thought about the greatest outcome about anything, he just loved proving everybody wrong with a can do attitude and without a doubt in his mind that he could do anything because of his age. From what I read there isn’t really anything that the book doesn’t explain about the characters any more than I can.

The character that I can relate to the most is Mark, well, besides him having that happy-go-lucky attitude about everything, I can relate to him constantly being told that he can’t do something, I also know how it feels to try to not disappoint someone or hurt them so you give it your all to satisfy them. if Mark’s father came over for dinner the outcome would be horrific, in my family, somebodies negative mood can ruin everything and dinner could possibly be over, either that or someone is bound to start arguing sooner or later.

Not so much did the cover catch my attention but the summery on the back where it says “despite his father being skeptic of him”  also that he was pursuing something that he felt he was good at but really got no credit for. Normally I like to read a book where the main character has to overcome type of obstacle fiction or non-fiction it really doesn’t make a difference to me. This book it’s that different from my favorite book because it the last book he still had to overcome the obstacle of trying to get rid of this guilty consciences he had of burning his friends  from jealousy.
