It’s
hard to say for certain whom my favorite musical artist is, there are so many!
I really love all types of music. I love jazz, hip hop, punk, folk punk, jam
bands, and even dubstep or electronic music. But, for the sake of this blog
post, I’ll get really specific.
Andrew
Bird is incredible. Before I begin, did you know his major in college was
whistling? That’s like, automatically 5,000 points for Mr. Bird.
His
song “Hospital,” was featured in the indie movie project, “Norman,” released in
2010. I have not seen the movie unfortunately, but it looks really good. In
fact, I know it’s good, because Andrew Bird wrote a lot of music for the movie.
This
song has really inspired me a lot. It’s instrumental and there are no lyrics to
it, but never before have so many images come to my head when I listen to it.
It’s like there’s been this idea bouncing around in there for so long, and I
couldn’t organize it or solidify it until I heard this song.
I plan
to make a project out of this song for the remainder of the summer. I want to
incorporate my friends and the feeling of being a young adult with no cares,
like you’re a kid again in the midst of growing up and you’re absorbing every
detail. You can appreciate it all more now because you can see that you’re
childhood has to end at some point. I could go on.
It’s a
shorter song, and it’s slow paced. It gives me the feeling of a hazy dream or
memory of being in the sun. The end of the song ends on a high note, a long
strum of his violin. It leaves a feeling of hope in the future. As if the best
is yet to come.
It’s
strange how you can get so much imagery from just hearing instruments work
together like that. That’s why I respect Andrew Bird so much. This song makes
you think. You have to dig to find out what it means to you.
That
sounds sappy and all, but it’s true! He makes my job so much easier by being so
descriptive through his music. It’s like he painted a picture in my head.
Now it’s just a matter of getting
these thoughts on a screen. And this is
how famous directors are made. Watch out Wes Anderson, I’m coming for you.
Oh! I might as well post the song
on this blog, too. See what you can find.
Listen to these heady jams, bro.
